Developed exclusively to become the largest outdoor augmented reality-enabled trail in the UK, The National Civil War Trail app tells the riveting story of Newark's fate when King and Parliament clashed 350 years ago.
Cutting edge augmented reality, authentic locations and lavishly filmed costumed scenes combine to tell a tale of death and glory through smart phones and tablets. Alongside The National Civil War Centre, Newark and Sherwood District Council and Spool Films, we are extremely proud to have played a vital role in bringing this epic app project to life.
From the Market Square to the Church, the app fuses stunning cinematography and augmented reality to put the trail visitors in the heart of the action. For example, to watch the story of John Americanus trail visitors simply point their device at Newark Castle’s infamous wall.
During an interview with ITV Central Oakley VR’s Creative Director, Barry Richardson said “we are bringing yesteryear to life using tomorrow’s technologies”.
As well as a town trail map and an interactive timeline, Newark Castle has been lovingly restored through a series of 360º virtual reality panoramas. And for the younger culture vultures, the Siege Fire game (imagine Angry Birds meets Battleships) provides vital context to the Queen’s Sconce.
The support, help and creative input by Oakley made this challenging and complex project far easier than we could have ever expected. The level of professionalism and the willingness to go the extra mile was very reassuring. Our expectations have been exceeded with a slick and leading edge product that has wowed everyone who has seen it.Deborah Johnson Lead Policy & Commissioning Officer at Newark & Sherwood District Council
